About Maya
Maya is a creative writer, editor and producer of content in the areas of print, podcast, digital content and video. She is currently Brand, Content and Communications Lead at Think City, an urban rejuvenation organisation in Malaysia.
​
She was formerly a broadcast journalist and radio producer/editor for BFM 89.9, a business radio station. Prior to that she spent several years working in communications for leading brands from tech to lifestyle/retail brands, and fashion to f&b.
In her free time, she dabbles in theatre and has written for and performed in satirical comedy revues, plays, musicals and sung at jazz venues for over 20 years.

Her short stories have been published in anthologies by Malaysian publisher, FIXI, and in magazines such as Esquire. She is currently working on a full-length novel.
Maya is passionate about art history across all genres of art and is a consummate museum buff. To stay sane, she goes running and maintains a yoga practice.

BRAND, CONTENT & COMMUNICATIONS LEAD, THINK CITY
Maya is currently the Brand, Content and Communications Lead at Think City, an urban impact organisation focused on making cities more liveable, socially and environmentally resilient and sustainable. Her work encompasses strategy and implementation of corporate branding, corporate communications, programme-linked outreach campaigns, and sustainable urbanism advocacy. She is Managing Editor of The Citymaker, the online magazine of Think City.
2016 - 2019
MANAGING EDITOR, THE CITYMAKER
Managing all editorial and operational aspects of The Citymaker, the online magazine of urban impact organisation, Think City. Responsible for web design, editorial calendaring, article and podcast interviews, recording, editing and production, managing contributors and partners, publishing and promoting The Citymaker content across various platforms.
2012 - 2016
PRESENTER/PRODUCER, BFM 89.9 THE BUSINESS STATION
Managed from A to Z, the production, presenting, publishing and promotion of the following shows on BFM 89.9: BFM Enterprise: Resource Centre, Marketing Mojo, Five For Fortune, BFM Weekend: Style File, and A Sunday Kinda Love.
Tasks included:
Business and lifestyle/art & culture journalism | Scripting, research and preparation for interviews and recordings | Editing, sound design and audio production |Operating studio equipment for recordings and live broadcasts | Operating RCS systems and editing in Adobe Audition | Show concept research, development and proposals | Development of branded content for clients.
Highlights: Developed two new shows (Five For Fortune and A Sunday Kinda Love) and contributed to projects involving gross sales revenue of over RM1 million in 2014.
Training received: editing and production, on-air presentation, business journalism, longform audio projects.

FREELANCE CREATIVE & EDITORIAL CONSULTANT
Over the years Maya consulted and delivered on various client projects including branding/marketing, writing/editorial, podcast and short video production, and social media content for The Melium Group, Think City, Bobo KL, Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival, AIA, PopDigital, Baby Grand Productions, and NextDor Property Communications among others.
